TOP FLIGHT GROUND SERVICES LTD ANNOUNCES COMLPETE SHUTDOWN

The Top Flight Group announced Jan 1, 2009 that all operations at the Kelowna Inetrnational Airport will be closed as of January 31, 2009. Its recently declined project (by the City Of Kelowna) at the Kelowna International Airport to construct a 3.6 million dollar facility has caused the company to evaluate its position at the Kelowna airport. President Dean Thorlakson said, “With the ever changing economy we are unable to survive here without our own facility. We hoped to build a world class facility here in Kelowna and that now that that is not the case we are forced to go ahead and completly close all operations and lay off all employees." The departure of Top Flight Ground Services LTD follows its sister company Top Flight Fueling Ltd which closed opeartions in January 2008. This leaves 2 baggage handling companies and only one fuel supplier at the Kelowna International Airport.

Thorlakson also noted 'It is real shame that an airport as large as Kelowna has a fuel and hanger monopoly. Transient aircraft have very little choice here unlike other airports of the same size where they have more than one choice." Currently at the Kelowna airport there is only one fuel supplier and that same operator has the only retail hanger space availible at the airport.
